Our member organizations distribute life-saving curricula to our communities so more people are equipped to recognize and respond to child abuse. MACA mobilizes communities to have tough but necessary conversations about child abuse. We help teachers, parents, youth-serving professionals, and conscientious community members identify the various forms of child abuse and what steps can be taken to help a child in need. We believe that it is our shared responsibility—along with teachers, parents, youth-serving professionals, and concerned citizens—to educate adults on child abuse so that all can respond appropriately to suspicions of child abuse.
Our Recognizing and Responding to Child Abuse curriculum is a vital educational tool in keeping children as well as communities around the state safe. MACA, along with our member Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs), began updating and expanding the curriculum to reflect the most up-to-date practices, resources, and methods. Staying up to date with current trends is a top priority of ours, as predators continue to use social media and the internet to traffic and exploit children at an alarmingly high rate. The curriculum consists of ten sections and is tailored specifically to each audience and location. MACA and CAC staff use the curriculum to heighten awareness and empower adults to protect children.
